The Woodface Files

December Update

At last report THE TANGIBLE TITANS (Grant's daughter Kelsi and friend Bridget Martin) were heading down to Christchurch, courtesy of APRA, to attend the presentation of the New Zealand Children’s Song of the Year Award. Despite their flight down being rescheduled a number of times due to horrible weather they had a great time and arrived home stoked with their top 5 placing and impressed by the hospitality of the music community.

Since then THE TANGIBLE TITANS have managed to pull off a couple more admirable achievements, firstly making it into the top 50 of the ’08 Play It Strange competition with their song Cry For The Cut Woman. This won the girls recording studio time and means the song will be included on the ’08 Play It Strange CD. Then, just to prove they are perceptible giants in all aspects of musical performance, they won 1st prize in the ’08 Mount Maunganui Busking Competition! If you want to check out their website, maybe order an album or a great looking T-shirt and see what gigs they have coming up (like Parachute ’09) then go to: www.tangibletitans.com

On the ART front I’ve uploaded pics of some new works in GRANT’S PICTURE GALLERY in the Picture Gallery, including The Stand, a corrugated piece that made it to the final exhibition of the 2008 National Art Awards and a couple of outdoor pieces that are on display at The Art Boutique, 514 Cambridge Rd Tauranga.

I have also downloaded a selection of my art and Kokomo related images to The Wall, the new interactive attraction at Te Papa Museum, Wellington. So if you’re in Te Papa and feel like shooting my stuff up onto a huge ceiling-high screen and then mucking around with it (cropping, stretching, playing with colour balance and adding words or symbols all with a funky hand-held wand) go for it! You can find the images under the tag Art-Bullot at the museum or check out what it’s all about at: www.ourspace.tepapa.com/wall_snapshots (If you do, let me know the date you were there so I can check it out online. contact me here - new address)

Bob-meditate. jpgAs the boys mentioned there’s many a groovy musical project underway at The Boatshed lately. Both Sony and I are most happy to be involved in projects like Shona Laing’s new album, John Michaelz solo offering Walk On Water, the recently released Hard To Handle live album and Dave Roy’s next collection of originals. We also spent an enjoyable afternoon last month recording some trumpet and harp for local singer-song writer Kim Ward at Tim Cooper’s studio in Mount Maunganui. Sony put down an awesome combination of flugel and muted trumpet for one track and I had heaps of fun on a song written by Kim’s dad Bill called Cold Coffee Morning (which includes some sweet slide guitar from Derek) playing some weird percussion and using a coffee cup for a waa waa affect on the harmonica.

Most exciting, of course, is the work underway on Sonia’s album, but I’ll save that for the next Woodface Files! Meanwhile have an awesome Christmas, we’re off to join Bob on a quest of spiritual enlightenment at the Riverside Retreat!

Peace and mungbeans Granti.
