Hard To Handle Reunion!
We couldn't be more excited about this! Blues guitar maestro Anton "Tipi" Elkington has returned to NZ for a year after 12 years in Brisbane with his band The Hipshooters. He joins singer John Michaelz, drummer Paul Higgins and bass player Willie Priestly for a reunion of Hard To Handle, a fantastic blues/rock band who had a short but spectacular run from 1989 to 1992. They are getting back together for one night only, on March 31 at The Colosseum (Harington St) in Tauranga. Derek was a member of the original line-up of Hard To Handle (though not its best incarnation), and they recorded "Don't Worry 'Bout Me" (Stromboling) and "The Working Class Shuffle" (To Be Or What) on their album The End Of The Beginning. Opening the night will be The Self-Righteous Brothers Blues Ensemble (Derek, Nigel and Grant) followed by more friends, maximum R&B band Brilleaux, featuring Kokomo's oft-times drummer Ian "Beano" Gilpin. Then the climax of the night - the Hard To Handle reunion, which will probably involve a certain amout of jamming and general chaos! Tickets are $20 - available from The Colosseum, Bay City Music, and Mayers Music. Things should kick off around 9.00pm. |
