Northland Field Days

From Derek:

Another three days spent playing amongst the hay bales in the Trappitt & Ewenson tent at the Northland Field Days in Dargaville (probably, I think, the band's most unusual gig) - and everybody had a ball!
It was hard work though, playing six half-hour sets each day so, to test ourselves a little, we played the first two days without repeating a single song. I suspect we could have done the third day too... after all these years the repertoire is quite expansive!

Anyway, the reason for this brief report was to mention the rather awesome vehicles we were sharing the tent with: an original Model T Ford and three great early bikes. They were a 1926 Harley, a 1927 Royal Enfield and a "World's Fastest" Indian, all in immaculate condition.
Here's a picture of two of them - the Enfield is in the from with the Indian behind it. Should have got some better pics - they really are wonderful-looking bikes!

Rapping At The Boatshed

In well-earned a break from the mixing of Kokomo's upcoming live album, Nigel and Derek moved beyond their usual comfort zone in the studio to record some serious rapping.
Fortify is an up-and-coming rapper from Auckland who put down nine tracks over the course of the day, with raps ranging from the uplifting to the political (the latter bringing out the closet extremist in Nigel as he pulled out the electric guitar for his wildest soloing in years).
Both Nigel and Derek were blown away with Fortify who - though fairly new to the studio - performed with the assurance and skill of a seasoned professional. His raps were great too. The team at the Boatshed wish him every success.

Kokomo Mp3 Downloads Online

Should you be so inclined, you can now pay to download Kokomo mp3s online at the Amplifier website. The mp3s cost $1.99 each and currently all of the songs from Songs Of Love And Not, Little Heroes and To Be Or What are available.
You can also buy the entire albums in mp3 format for $19.95 or proper Kokomo CDs (you know, the things in covers with artwork etc) there, though they will always be cheaper here. (If you do happen to find any outlets selling our CDs cheaper than us, let us know and we will beat their price, though this doesn't seem like a likely scenario!)

Frankly, the band really haven't got to grips with the idea of buying mp3s online (we tend to buy actual CDs and convert them to mp3s on the home PC if needed) and we will, of course, continue to post free mp3 downloads on this site - mainly of unreleased stuff or demos of upcoming releases, but if you really want to pay to download Kokomo mp3s for your iPod or other portable device, head along to Amplifier and enjoy! You can find them here.

Actually, since some of the mp3 money does acrue to the band the slightly cynical tone of this news item is probably uncalled for. So... BUY THOSE MP3s TODAY! TELL YOUR KIDS/PARENTS! GET THEM TO DOWNLOAD THE MP3S TOO! SPREAD THE WORD! KOKOMO HEREBY PROMISE TO BUY YOU A DRINK WHEN THE FIRST MILLION ROLLS IN...
