The Baycourt Concerts - 20th November 2005 |

First Baycourt Mp3 Online!Just as an early Christmas present for all the Kokomo fans out there, and as bit of a teaser, here's a very rough mp3 of Freight Train from the recent Baycourt shows (which means, of course, it's from the upcoming live album). NB. It has yet to be mixed, so will eventually sound a lot better than this. It's also encode at 48kb/s, which is pretty low, so it's not the best of quality. It is, however, about 1.5meg so, unless you're on broadband of some sort, it'll take about five minutes to download. Left click to download or right click and select "save taget as" to save: |

A Short Report On The Two Concerts
There is now a special section in the Picture Gallery featuring pictures of the two shows. A SHORT REPORT FROM DEREK: What a long day! Two 2 1/2 hour concerts (well, the second one ran to a bit longer...), an eleven person crew - which is more than we've ever had before - and it all went without a noticable hitch. And both shows, despite containing largely the same songs, were quite different in tone. The afternoon show was a bit straighter and more accurate, but everyone had relaxed a bit by the evening and the energy was a lot higher and looser. How they'll compare on tape and film will be interesting - we'll try and post a sample online when we get something mixed... The only thing I regret is that because I was so busy I didn't get the chance to even say hello to a lot of friends in the audience - and I know some of you had come from a fair distance. Sorry, I wasn't being rude intentionally! Let's catch up at the next show. Thank you for traveling from so far to be part of this event - I hope we played your favourite songs... From a technical point everything seemed to go fairly smoothly - no particular glitches with either the sound or the cameras (which rather surprised me with five camera operators running around!). It was great having Roger (Bullot, ex-Kokomo Blues bass player) on a camera - kinda like keeping the family together - and made it really special. He and John (Michaelz, who also sang with us) did some hilarious interviews with the audience as they were leaving (including with a rather bemused Pakistani taxi driver) which will probably end up somewhere on the DVD.
Actually, the only technical problem was that when I was just getting ready to take some pictures of the audience at the evening show, the batteries ran out on the camera - so you'll have to wait till the DVD to see yourself on film, unless you happen to have been sitting on the far right (closest to the entrance), in which case look in the Picture Gallery! Jan and Sharan (the Glimmer Girls) made sure that the backstage was well-stocked with everything from pate, fruit and cheeses to sushi and pinot noir, so the band were happy! Bianni (sound) and Ben (lights) headed the great Baycourt team who made it all easy for us. For people who couldn't be there, the two shows comprised the following songs. The one's in white were only played at the evening show: FIRST SET TOO MANY WORDS (Jacombs) GOOD GRIEF (Lake / Baysting) ANY ROAD UP (Jacombs) GET A GRIP ON YOURSELF (Jacombs / Michaelz) SATURDAY BLUES (Bracey) PLASTIC JESUS (Marrs?) DRY LAND (Jacombs) RAINY NIGHT IN TAUPO (Jacombs) FREIGHT TRAIN (Terry) NEXT TIME YOU SEE ME (Robey / Harvey) SECOND SET DONT TEMPT ME (Jacombs) SONG FOR BROOK (ANGELS) (Jacombs) TO BE OR WHAT (JOY JOY HAPPY HAPPY) (Jacombs / Michaelz) BURDEN DOWN (Jacombs / Michaelz) FISHING BLUES (Thomas) STRANGE ANGELS (Jacombs) BABYS GETTING BIGGER (Jacombs / Michaelz) 30 DAYS (Jacombs) THEY RAIDED THE JOINT (Burley) ENCORE HOME OF THE BLUES (Jacombs) THE WORKING CLASS SHUFFLE (Jacombs / Michaelz) SUPERHEROES (Jacombs / Michaelz) 2nd ENCORE HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED (Dylan) ********************************************************** There are also, of course, many people to thank, most particularly: "Beano" Gilpin and Mike Kirk for playing with us (drums and electric guitar respectively); Brian & Tracie de Jong for recording the whole thing and supplying many fine bits of equipment; Hugh Robb and his team for filming it all (Mike, Chris, Tiger, Lindsey, Roger, Dave); Mayer's Music for Derek's guitar amp and pick-up; Catastrophe for Sonia's fantastic clothes; Frank Casey Menswear for Grant and Nigel's waistcoats; Creative Tauranga for making the TV ads and arranging the clothes; Sky TV Arts Channel 58 for showing the TV ads; The Weekend Sun for their wonderful promotion; All the Baycourt team; and Jan and Sharan for the food. And, of course anyone we've forgotten and ALL OF YOU FOR COMING ALONG - WE HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE SHOWS! |
