| e had originally planned our second album to be of our own songs but, in the event, it seemed a shame not to record a few more of the old tunes we loved. We planned this as just a quick cassette release and Freight Train and Crawling To The Border were actually recorded 4 months later as the
start of the "proper" album of originals. Then Jayrem Music became our distributor and this became our first CD. You never can tell. Again it was recorded very quickly and pretty much live in the studio and it was the first time we worked with Nigel, who is now Kokomo's bass player.Paul Higgins drummed for Hard To Handle (and produced their album The End Of the Beginning) which Derek was also a founder member of, and later played all the
drums on To Be Or What. He has played with us live on and off over the years. Richard Cesan is a Uruguayan conga and percussion genius now resident in Auckland. He owned a restaurant in Mount Maunganui at the time and used to cook fantastic Latin American influenced food for us when we played there. The album title comes from something that the wonderful old bluesman Mississippi John Hurt used to say. He was one of the sweetest and grooviest of the guys
"rediscovered" in the late '50s and we always thought it was cool. An alternative title at the time was Holy shit Batman, It's Kokomo Blues! In retrospect, we probably made the right choice.
