Throwin' Up My Hands (G. Davis) Our first two albums had Rev Gary Davis' songs - why break a tradition? This is one of his blues and a song that he would only play as an instrumental after he became a minister because of the blues being "the devil's music".
The words are actually quite innocuous but the guitar part, which was quite influential on other guitarist of the time is just great. I tried to keep it as faithful to the good reverend as possible but you really should check out his original version, which starts slow but gets so fast by the end that it is just staggering. This song was the recorded debut of Grant's unique one-handed washboard playing. |
