The Working Class Shuffle (D.Jacombs/J. Michaelz)

John and I wrote this back in the Hard To Handle days. They recorded a very fine Rolling Stones-style version on their album, The End Of The Beginning.

Half a box of matches in my pocket
Half a pint of rum in my blood
Half way to heaven on a Saturday night
      Swimming out before the flood
Salt in my coffee, sweat in my hair
You tell me when and I'll tell you where
Jump down baby do the working class shuffle again

      CHORUS

Do the working class shuffle - get your back to the wall
Do the working class shuffle - we're having a ball
Do the working class shuffle - get down on your knees
Jump down baby do the working class shuffle with me

Sally ran off with a saxophone player
      Left me feeling so forlorn
Said she was a sucker for the colour of his eyes
Or was it just the size of his horn?
Lovers have never found suffering strange
      Everything passes, nothing will change
Jump down baby do the working class shuffle again

      CHORUS

Living in a land where opportunity knocks
And a credit card opens any door
They screw you up then they screw you down
And then they want to screw you some more
Blood sweat and sorrow, struggle and shame
I may use your crutch but I'm not really lame
Jump down baby do the working class shuffle again

      CHORUS

Do the working class shuffle with no shoes on your feet
Do the working class shuffle as you scuffle down the street
Do the working class shuffle - get down on your knees
Jump down baby do the working class shuffle with me
