Rainy Night In Taupo (D. Jacombs)

This was a bash at writing an absolutely classic-style blues, but set in New Zealand rather than somewhere in America. It also gave me a chance to play tribute to some of my guitar heroes in the opening solo.

Rainy night in Taupo - I'm sitting down here by the lake
Rainy night in Taupo - I'm sitting down here by the lake
The girl I love she left me and caused my heart to break

When I left home this morning she was sweet as she could be
She smiled and held me tightly when she said goodbye to me
I spent the whole day working, thinking nothing could be wrong
When I came home this evening she had packed her things and gone
Now it's a rainy night in Taupo - I'm sitting down here by the lake
Gonna jump into the water and wash my blues away

There's nothing you can say when someone leaves without a word
Your mind just fills with rumours and stories that you've heard
I know she's out there somewhere, maybe with some other guy
But don't ask for a reason, 'cause, Lord, I don't know why
Now it's a rainy night in Taupo - I'm sitting down here by the lake
Gonna jump into the water and wash my blues away

Rainy night in Taupo - I'm sitting down here by the lake
Rainy night in Taupo - I'm sitting down here by the lake
The girl I love she left me and caused my heart to break
Gonna jump into the water and wash my blues away
