Our first album with Nigel as part of the band and we were back in the Boatshed where the constraints of it being a small studio were offset by having a lot longer to experiment while recording. The longest we had spent on any of the previous albums was 7 days! This was luxury.
In order to work within the size of the studio we stripped the drums back to just a snare (which is how we work with drummers live) with just the occasional addition of a kick drum.
After all the instrumentals on To Be Or What this was definitely going to be a song album and that's how it worked out - lots of words, and tight structures without much soloing.
