Broken China (D. Jacombs/John Michaelz)

John and I originally wrote this as a fast song with many different words and a chorus, but it never quite worked so I hacked it up and rewrote most of it. I particularly like the "tatters in the tapestry..."  bit.

      Broken China, broken chair
      Broken mirror on the stair
You know he's sorry now, but that don't mean a thing

      Open road, headlights on
She said she's leaving - now she's gone
You know he's sorry now, but that don't mean a thing

In the heat of the moment anyone can cross the line
An accident's an accident, it happens all the time
The tatters in the tapestry are part of the design
In the heat of the moment anyone can cross the line

Five years ago in a small cafe
She smiled at him as a jazz band played
You know he's sorry now, but that don't mean a thing

She made him feel like a little kid
he made her laugh like her daddy did
You know he's sorry now, but that don't mean a thing

In the heat of the moment, in the blinking of an eye
Strange things happen and nobody knows why
We all go round in circles till the day that we die
In the heat of the moment, in the blinking of an eye

      Broken China, broken chair
      Broken mirror on the stair
You know he's sorry now, but that don't mean a thing
