Blues For Christmas (D. Jacombs) I'm still not entirely sold on the idea of Christmas songs but I figured if John Lennon and Slade did them..... And I had this first line, "Got the blues for Christmas" and the guitar figure that followed it, and it
just wouldn't go away, so I carried that around and tried to work out what happened next for at least a couple of years before I finally discovered the rest of the song. Then we got together with Tracie and I still hadn't written the last verse, so I completely fell off the wagon of artistic integrity with some damn stupid thought of making bucks out of a Christmas single. No sht, Sherlock, we all dream stupid sometimes. So I finished it off with a verse which was sappy and up-beat. The mood
I wanted was bleak melancholy. What a cop-out. One of these days I'll write a depressing last verse - the way it should be. Got the blues for Christmas Got the blues for Christmas Drinking green Chatreuse on an amber night Ring out the bells for Christms Sending all my love to you |
